Now you can create and share your own levels with the Qwak editor. This page conatains instructions for use, and also in this section, you will find a tutorial, and instructions for creating and uploading your very own level packs. To start the editor, click on the 'Editor' button in the main menu.

Basic Concepts

Minimum Requirements: All levels (maps) must have at least 2 player start positions, 1 yellow key, and 1 exit door.

Layers: Each map has 3 layers. The action takes place on the middle layer (2). You can create your whole map on layer 2, and it will work fine. Layer 1 is behind layer 2, and can be used to place things in the background, just like the banners on castle background. Layer 3 is in front of layer 2, and can be used to place things in the foreground.



Keyboard Controls

Space Bar: Press the 'Space Bar' to move between your map page and the tiles page. Press it again to move back.

Number Keys: On your map page, press '1' to '6' for layer selection. On the tiles page, press '1' to '3' to select tiles page.

Escape: Press 'Escape' to activate the menu bar (see below).

U: Press 'U' to undo any changes you've made to your map.

R: Press 'R' to redo any changes you've made to your map.

O: Press 'O' for quick access to menu bar Open tab.

Q: Press 'Q' for quick access to menu bar QA tab.



Mouse Controls

Right Mouse Button [RMB]: Press and hold the right mouse button, then drag the mouse. When you release the right mouse button you will grab a selection of (one or more) tiles. You can do this on the map page and the tiles page.

Left Mouse Button [LMB]: Use the left mouse button to draw with the tiles you've just grabbed (using the RMB).

Mouse Wheel: On the map page, use the mouse wheel for layer selection. On the tiles page, use the mouse wheel to select a tiles page (1 to 3).



The Menu Bar

The Menu Bar: To activate the menu bar, move the mouse to the very top of the screen, or press the escape key. Below you can see the 10 tabs on the menu bar. Hover over your mouse the tabs, and more options will be shown below them.

Menu Bar

Play: If your map meets the minimum requirements (above), this will allow you to quickly test the map you're editing. You can also just press the enter key or fire, to test your map.

New: Will create a new blank map. You can select from any of the 6 tilesets (worlds). Note: Will overwrite existing map.

Open: Opens a .MAP file from disk. Click to launch a file dialog box, and select any existing .MAP file. A list recent .MAP files will also be shown below the tab. You can hover your mouse over these to view their content, or click to open.

Save: Saves current map to disk. Hover your mouse over the tab, if a filename is shown below the tab, clicking on Save will save your current map to the shown file. If no filename is shown, clicking on the Save tab will open a file dialog box so you can select a location and filename to save your map.

QA: This tab is for managing your level packs, more on this later.

Tiles: You can select from any of the 6 tilesets (worlds). Use with caution! Changing the tileset for an existing map may have unexpected results!

Type: You can select from normal level, challenge (bonus) stage, or guardian (boss) stage.

Feat: Here you can select which game feature a map will use. On default, the game will choose a feature at random. You can also force no feature, or a specific feature to be active for your map.

Layer: The first 3 options: View all layers, while editing just one. The last 3 options: View only the layer you are editing.

Quit: Will quit back to the main game menu. Don't forget to save any new maps!
